The Greedy Dog

There was once a greedy dog.

One day, the greedy dog stole a bone from a butcher shop. He ran away before someone could catch him. As he was going home, he came across a river. When he looked into the river, he saw another dog with a bone.

“Look at the bone in that dog’s mouth,” thought the greedy dog. “It looks bigger. I want to have that, as well.”

So, he growled to scare the other dog. The other dog in the water growled back.

Angrily, he barked at the other dog. Unfortunately, when he opened his mouth, the bone fell off.

As soon as the bone fell into the river, the other dog and the bone vanished. Then he finally realized there was no other dog. It was his reflection all along.

The dog went back home, sadly regretting his foolishness and greed.

Author’s Note:

Like all Aesop’s Fables this story also has a moral attached to it – “Greed gets you nothing.”
