In a village lived a little girl with her mother. The village was on the edge of a forest. The girl always wore a red cloak with a hood that was a gift from her grandmother. Hence, everyone in the village called her Little Red Riding Hood.
One day, her mother told Little Red, “Take this basket with bread, jam, and cakes to your grandmother. She is not feeling well. But be very careful. Do not play in the forest or talk to strangers on the way.”
Little Red Riding Hood happily took the basket for her grandmother. She had to cross the forest to reach her grandmother’s cottage.
While walking in the forest, a big wolf appeared before her. “This little girl will be a delicious meal for me,” he thought.
“Where are you going?” asked the wolf.
“I am going to my grandmother’s cottage. She is unwell,” replied Little Red Riding Hood.
The wolf became greedy. “I can get a nice big meal if I eat the girl and her grandmother,” he thought.
“Where is your grandmother’s cottage?” asked the wolf.
Little Red Riding Hood innocently gave the directions to her grandmother’s cottage.
“Why don’t you pick some nice flowers for your grandmother? She will feel very happy,” the wolf suggested.
Little Red Riding Hood immediately agreed and went off in search of some primroses for her grandmother. The wolf ran to the grandmother’s cottage and knocked at the door.
“Who is it?” asked the grandmother.
“Little Red Riding Hood,” said wolf changing his voice.
“Come in, my dear. I have kept the door open,” said the grandmother.
The wolf went in and gobbled the grandmother. He immediately wore the grandmother’s gown, cap, and glasses and lay down on the bed.
When Little Red Riding Hood came to the cottage, she saw that the door was open. She entered, saying, “How are you, grandma? Mother has sent some bread, jam, and cakes for you.”
“Thank you, my dear,” said the wolf.
“Your voice sounds different, grandma,” said Little Red Riding Hood.
“That’s because I have a sore throat,” replied the wolf.
“You look different. Your ears are larger than usual,” said Little Red Riding Hood.
“That’s to hear you better,” replied the wolf.
“Your eyes look different. They are big and red,” said Little Red Riding Hood.
“That’s to see you better,” replied the wolf.
“Your mouth also looks different. You have bigger teeth,” said Little Red Riding Hood.
“That’s to eat you with!” said the wolf and immediately leapt out of bed. Little Red Riding Hood screamed in fright, but the wolf gobbled her up.
A woodcutter was passing by when he heard Little Red Riding Hood’s scream. He came into the cottage and saw the wolf with a big belly. He immediately killed the wolf and opened the wolf’s stomach. Luckily, both Little Red Riding Hood and the grandmother were alive!
They both were relieved to be alive and thanked the woodcutter. Little Red Riding Hood, along with her grandmother and the woodcutter, sat and enjoyed the goodies that she had brought.
